Chicago-based artist Terence Hannum has been working with the imagery and rituals of underground music subcultures for some time - both as a performer in the bands Locrian and Unlucky Atlas, and as a visual artist using drawing, painting, video and publications.
The man has a deep love of music and a particularly strong interest in self-publishing. We're not even going to try to count how many 'zines, cassettes, buttons, flyers, posters and records this guy has made at this point, but we are very happy to continue selling his stuff. Hannum's 'zines have been getting increasingly experimental and imaginative with a new shift in form or technique with each successive effort.
Lately Hannum has given himself the mandate to make a new 'zine every month. For Call & Response, Terence collaborated with Scott Treleaven - each contributing a range of images including their own original paintings, photographs and collages. The result is a visual collection (there is no text this time) of some favorite themes: mysterious gatherings in dimly lit places, candles, walls of amplifiers and speaker cabinets, skulls and young men participating in mysterious rites. Though no one is explicitly shown playing music this time around, the whole thing just reeks of heavy fucking metal, devil goats and all.
Only 200 copies of this were produced and we probably won't be able to get this again so don't delay.
