This very small edition folio of materials, housed in a plastic sleeve, accompanied an exhibition of 11 books by the late conceptual artist Don Celender at the recently founded Public Collectors Study Center in Chicago. The folio includes a cardstock cover, a 20 page booklet with an essay on Celender by Marc Fischer and a synopses for each book in the show, a color postcard, a full length version of Celender's CV, 2 facsimile pages from Celender's book "Opinions of Working People on the Arts" and a copy of Celender's obituary from the New York Times. Be sure to check out the two rare books by Celender that Half Letter Press is also offering.
Here's what Proximity Magazine's blog had to say about the show and catalog:
"The show features a few publications created by Don Celender, a relatively unknown conceptual artist who created books from research culled through the use of surveys. His humorous yet serious participatory works are an incredible re-discovery for us all and I am super thankful that Marc has made the effort to share this research. I interpret Dons work as templates for actions, research projects and works that need to be re-created and re-imagined here in our own city.
Marc also put together an incredible catalog featuring descriptions of the 11 book projects on display and an informative essay. Those of you familiar with his other pamphlets and books will be delighted at this wonderful assemblage."

"An addendum to my post on Public Collectors
Unfortunately, it seems as if I missed what seems to me to be the most interesting thing ever offered by that site. From December 9 until February 10, the site held an exhibition of work by artist and art historian Don Celender at their Public Collectors Study Center in Chicago. Celenders work focused mostly on administering surveys about art and other topics and then publishing their results. The titles and descriptions of his self-published books are the kind of thing that makes a weirdo like me go all doe-eyed and gooey inside."
