Librarian/publisher/historian/digger/researcher Tim Devin returns (he never actually went away) with a new publication about the kind of thing we love to learn about: unsanctioned DIY goodness in the form of an almost 20-year long art park. It was created by people in Somerville, MA where he lives, who made things where they wanted to see them without regard for finding 'official' art exhibition spaces. The illustrations by Alex Kittle (who shared in the work of conducting interviews and research) are fantastic and they animate the text and interviews throughout the booklet.

From the publisher:

The free range sculpture garden: Fighting boredom and apathy in all dimensions of time and space

Just outside of Somerville MA's busy Davis Square is the Free Range Sculpture Garden: An unsanctioned, DIY outdoor art park full of ever-changing wicker-and-wood animals, intricate found-object constructions--and tinsel hanging everywhere.

Join locals Tim Devin and Alex Kittle as they take you on a tour of how the Garden got started, how it works--and the role it's played in local culture.
