Christopher and Kathleen Sloboda of Draw Down have an interesting practice that embraces the work of graphic design, publishing, collaborations with artists, distribution, and just a generally friendly kind of boosterism of things they think have a beautiful sense of form and should be shared with the world. We've had the pleasure of encountering Draw Down at quite a few book fairs over the years and we thought it was high time that we offer something they've made.
Lately Draw Down have been working with single artists or illustrators for a series (though not defined as such) of sweet books of drawings, all with the super clean, no-nonsense approach to design that is a feature in all of their work. This book by a young Japanese artist named yamyam might be our favorite. It is filled with yamyam's extremely charming animal drawings, all titled in English and Japanese. This book would be fantastic for children, but it's also generally pleasurable as a celebration of creatures and the joys of direct communication through drawing.
