Public Collectors publication #89. A quick booklet produced for a reading event organized by Dan Gleason that took place shortly after the 2024 Presidential election. Most of the copies were given away to friends or offered as a bonus in mail orders but a small number remain available for sale. From the back cover:
A lot of people seem to feel that like America itself, the Missed Connections section on craigslist.org has seen better days. People complain that their posts are always getting flagged and removed. Or they say it used to be more fun, but no one looks at it anymore. Still, after the most consequential presidential election of my lifetime, I thought that maybe I could take the temperature of the country by browsing this forum.
For the first few weeks of November 2024, I surveyed several thousand posts from all over the U.S. I found people who are looking to connect after promising glances and brief exchanges in hardware stores, in supermarkets, and in line to vote. America is lonely, horny, and in need of stress relief. America likes suggestive euphemisms, wants more conversation, hopes you see this, and is wondering why your eyes looked sad. America needs its pipes blown out and its holes filled. America was spat on, but America also said, “It’s okay, do it again.”
